IPSY January 2018 Review

by / / in Ipsy Subscription Boxes/ 18 Comment(s)

This is my third box from IPSY ever since I started last September 2017. I did post my review for the September and October 2017 boxes but I skipped November and December for financial reasons, because at that time I was saving for my travel to the Philippines. Month skipping is the new retention feature of IPSY so that instead of cancelling subscription, subs can just skip for a month, which to be honest is a very effective marketing strategy and convenient for subs so that if subs decide to re-activate, they don’t have to go through the hassle of being on waitlist again. However, skipping must be done before the first of the month because that is the time that they take payments from your credit card. I forgot to do that last December, hence, I have this January box to review. At that time, I was super busy finalizing my travel that I totally forgot skipping my IPSY subscription.

Today, I will be giving my honest review of what I think about the product that I received from my January 2018 IPSY box. This review is late, because I was on vacation for the whole month of January. If you want to check my other IPSY review, please click here.

Name of the Box: IPSY

Theme: Game Face

Cost: $10 USD (free shipping in the US and $4.95 in Canada)

What you will get: Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products.

This month bag design! It is sporty and colorful and the quality is good.

Purlisse Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask + Exfoliant 15 ML – $10.29

A 10 minute facial treatment designed with Blue Lotus Seeds, White Clay, Bamboo, Ginger, White Tea and Mushroom Extract. This instantly brightens, detoxifies, tightens and soothes skin while providing gentle exfoliation. The power blend improves skin texture and leaves it visibly youthful & glowing.

This 10 minute facial treatment is a monumental improvement from the usual 30 minute face mask rule which leaves you bored to death waiting. I was surprised because it doesn’t have harsh chemicals that leave my skin burning and itchy during application. Then, my face felt soft, smooth and tight after application which I love. To bad it’s only 15 ML, just good for 2 uses.

Glow For A Cause Body Butter 20g – $2.45

A decidedly young and uplifting scent with a vibrant blend of florals and a dash of sunny citrus. This luxuriously rich body butter with nature’s best moisturizing oils of coconut, jojoba, sunflower and vitamin E, hydrates and protects the skin while leaving behind a sexy and lasting scent. Paraben Free.  Phthalate Free.  Cruelty Free.  Gluten Free.

A cruelty free body butter just made my day! I am not really particular if my products are vegan, organic or cruelty free but if I do get a cruelty free product it does make me happy knowing there were no furry friends that were harmed in the making of the product. As for the body butter, it’s thick in consistency with hydrating and moisturizing power ideal for winter dry skin and it smell so good, like the mild perfume scent. I love it!

The Balm Cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter, Shadow & Shimmer 1.05g – $2.96

Meet Mary-Lou Manizer, a seemingly innocent honey-hued luminizer that catches everybody’s eye. This highlighter, shadow and shimmer diffuses light so your skin looks softer and younger while adding a subtle glow.

I don’t use highlighter unless I do full coverage make up, so this tiny thing will be used as a an eye shadow. I like the pigment and the shimmer effect because it make my eyes pop. This will come in handy during travel or inside my purse for make up emergency. I actually have a make up pouch that I carry with me everyday just in case I go somewhere that would require me to look pretty. Lol. And everything in it are deluxe samples which I super love because it doesn’t occupy a lot of space inside my purse.

Bellápierre Cosmetics StayPut Brow Gel in Licorice 2.2g (Full Size) – $25

StayPUT Brow Gel is a long-wearing brow color that is buildable and allows you to achieve a natural or bold look. Its unique wax based formula has the consistency of a gel and adheres to brow hair to maintain pigment and firm yet flexible hold. This waterproof wonder comes with a detachable brush and can even be used as eyeliner.

I always use brow gel because my brow hair are long and using brow gel put it in place where brow direction should be. I haven’t really found a good brow gel here in Canada so I am still using a brow gel that I got from the Philippines. I was happy that I got a brow gel on my IPSY box, however, this color is too dark for me. This is their darkest shade. I should have gotten the Cardamom for it to match my blonde hair. If I am not too ambitious in coloring my hair this light, I wouldn’t have a problem getting Licorice. I guess it’s time for me to update my hair profile in IPSY and change it to blonde. This brow gel is easy to apply and holds in place after application so my only concern is the color. I’m keeping it just in case in the future I decide to change my hair color back to black.

Ciate Fierce Flicks Liquid Liner 1.7 ML (Full Size) – $19

Formulated for intense, super-black color pay-off, dramatic wings and feline flicks are no match for this easy to use precision tip.

This is the second time I got a Ciate Fierce Flicks Liquid Liner from my subscription boxes. The first one was from Topbox, but it was a deluxe sample size while this one is full size! I love this liner and I am glad I got an extra one. It has a nice shade of black, long wearing and does not smudge or flake.

Total Product Value: $59.70 USD / $74.97 CAD

Amount paid for this subscription: $14.95 USD / $18.77 CAD excluding make-up bag

How much I saved: $44.75 USD / $56.20 CAD

Conclusion: This is by far the highest product value that I got with the last 3 boxes from IPSY and I am totally delighted! I got 2 full sized product which is a big surprise and I love my quirky looking make up pouch. The products are not bad either, it’s kind of a miss for the brow gel for me but I can live with that. Totally satisfied with my January IPSY box. Unfortunately, I will not be reviewing February box because I skipped.
