IPSY March 2018 Review

by / / in Ipsy Subscription Boxes/ 0 Comment(s)

This is my fourth box from IPSY after being on again – off again with them ever since I started last September 2017. Just like my January box, I received this March box because I forgot to skip. My friend told me to just cancel it to not get the risk of being charged, but for some reasons, I can’t bring myself to cancel it. I’m like “Why would I cancel if I can skip, right?”. But, I am also keeping it for me not to lose the points I earned. I might spend it all, get my last box then cancel altogether, but I don’t think it’s happening anytime soon.

Today, I will be giving my honest review of what I think about the product that I received from my March 2018 IPSY box. The box arrived on time, but my review is late. If you want to check my other IPSY review, please click here

Name of the Box: IPSY
Theme: Create
Cost: $10 USD (free shipping in the US and $4.95 in Canada)
What you will get: Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with 5 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products.

Isn’t this bag design the coolest? IPSY’s first DIY Glam Bag comes with markers so you can actually color the white spots with pink or blue. I like that this bag is a lot bigger and spacious than the previous bags, but canvas cloth bag is not ideal in holding make ups because it is not padded. There is a high risk of breaking make up cases specially compact powder and foundation when the bag falls. But, I still like it nevertheless.

Here comes the products!

VENEFFECT SKIN CARE Pore Minimizing Cleanser 15 ml – US$6.00 or CA$7.55
This gentle foaming cleanser is loaded with antioxidant-packed pomegranate enzymes to whisk dead skin away and leave you looking fresh and radiant.

This cleanser is good in removing make up dirt and my skin felt soft and refreshed after. It might take a while for me to really see the pore minimizing effect but I still believe in this promise.

TARTE COSMETICS Sex Kitten Eyeliner .1 g – US$10.00 or C$12.59
This inky black, creamy pencil is our go-to for tightlining, feline flicks, and more. It’s totally waterproof without smudging your eye look. It glides on ever-so smoothly and effortlessly with no tugging or pulling.

During winter I decided to go bare face without any make up other than lipstick, so it’s been a while since I used eye liner. Now that it’s already spring I decided to wear mascara and eye liner to make my eyes pop. This sex kitten eye liner (provocative sounding, I know) is easy to apply and the inky black color is really good in lining your eyes. Went out the entire evening and it did not even smudge. This is a highly recommended product for me.

RODIAL Glamobrow in Dark Ash Brown .09 g (Full Size) – US$22.00 or C$27.69
The fine, retractable tip easily mimics your natural brow hairs. And the creamy, gel texture goes on smooth, blends easy, and is smudge-proof.

I love an eye brow product with Spoolie! Nothing is more convenient than getting 2-in-1 product. Rodial is a UK-based brand that sells wide range of make up products. I’ve read good reviews about the brand, so I was very happy when I got a full sized brow pencil from them which is priced higher than the cost of this subscription. Yay! I like the gel texture because it resembles my brow hair when I applied it. It is long wearing and gave me eye brows on fleek!

DOUCCE Freematic Eyeshadow Mono in Ariana – US$10 or C$12.59
This ultra-pigmented formula takes the cake for its blendability, smudgability, and crease-resistance.

I got a set of Doucce freematic eye shadow in my October Topbox as a beauty surprise so I know what kind of quality I am expecting. Quality wise, Doucce eye shadow is highly pigmented which is good for long day wear. What I am fussing about right now is getting a mono which for me doesn’t serve any purpose other than being a refill. I can’t even put this inside my make up bag without getting pulverized. A nice mono compact would have made this review a 10. Fingers crossed for Doucce.

GOLDFADEN MD Facial Detox Mask 20 ml – US$26.00 or C$32.73
This purifying mask pulls out dirt and debris from way deep down, making your skin look glowy and brand new. It’s infused with a soothing blend of zinc oxide, sulfur, and camphor to cleanse and minimize the appearance of pores without over-drying your skin.

I am totally not expecting Goldfaden MD from my ipsy bag. As a certified Sephora window shopper, Goldfaden is a dream brand along with the coveted La Mer and Tatcha that I would not be able to afford. I tried it right away after unboxing. I felt a bit of sting and heat during application, sign that the product is working on something in your skin. My face felt clean and smooth after and glowy the next day.

Total Product Value: $74 USD / $93.15 CAD

Amount paid for this subscription: $14.95 USD / $18.82 CAD excluding make-up bag

How much I saved: $59.05 USD / $74.33 CAD

Conclusion: My March bag broke the record as the highest valued bag ever since I started IPSY. I love everything except the Doucce eye shadow. That is a total miss for me. I got 2 skin care products and 3 make up products which is just the right balance, but I want to point this out to IPSY that in my profile, I specifically indicated that I prefer skin care products over make up products. Nevertheless, I am still happy with what I got. Until the next IPSY bag review!
