Matrix Biolage Colorlast Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I am a brunette, my hair is naturally jet black but I decided to go all blonde in 2014 for an overhaul. That being said, I meant changing the way I look in preparation for a maturational change. I thought I would outgrow this phase but turned out I kept it longer than I am meant to keep it, which means more salon time, more color bottles wasted and more chemicals on my hair. Slowly my hair started getting dry, brittle and totally damaged by hair coloring products. And because hair color doesn’t stay that long I kept on retouching which means more coloring chemical on my hair just to keep it as golden blonde as ever. Before all these hair damaging steps, I have little to no knowledge about products that will keep my hair color long-lasting that would prevent me from coloring it so often. This year, I started using these types of hair care products, some of them work while others don’t live up to my expectation, but I still kept on trying in finding the best solution. Topbox Circle sent me Matrix Biolage Colorlast Shampoo and Conditioner to review and here is what I think after 2 weeks of use.

Colorlast Fig + Orchid Purple Shampoo
Description: Colorlast purple shampoo system neutralizes brass and unwanted warm tones while conditioning and protecting hair from breakage.

Verdict: Color-treated hair turns brassy. This phenomenon occurs to people with dark hair who want to color their hair blonde or platinum like me. There are different color molecules in hair dyes, and those are yellow, orange, blue and red. The blue colored molecules are smaller, hence, they break down easily making its early departure. What’s left are the warm tones: yellow, orange and red. Depending on your hair type, you get one of those warm tones. For me, it’s orange. Sometimes it’s cool to see orange hair but I would like to stick to blonde so I use purple shampoo. This one smells so nice, it has a wild orchid scent, like the ones you see in the tropics. For the last 2 weeks of use since the time I colored my hair, it prevented my hair from turning brassy, which happens a week after hair coloring. I hope it stays like this until my next hair coloring session because I love to keep my blonde as long as possible.

Colorlast Orchid Conditioner
Description:
Color-treated hair often loses its color and luster over time. Inspired by nature’s fade-defying orchid, Biolage Colorlast Conditioner helps maintain the color depth, tone and shine for vivid color-treated hair. Give her hair salon-vibrant color for up to 9 weeks.

  • Low pH Conditioner moisturizes hair, extending the life of your color
  • Hair is left soft and detangled with extra shine and depth of color
  • Paraben-free formula is formulated specifically for color-treated hair

Verdict: This conditioner works hand in hand with the shampoo and definitely played a big role in preventing my hair from turning brassy. I love the scent and the softness it gives my hair. Oftentimes, color damaged hair is difficult to tame, but this one made it less frizzy and tangled. I am glad that I am getting so much benefit from using this set.
